A leadership coach revealed the surprising task you need to plan every day to be more successful.
Leigh Ann Errico, Georgetown University-certified executive coach and founder of LAeRRICO & Partners, told Fox News that she advises her clients to plan what and when they will eat.
“The best thing I can tell them and the most successful leaders I see who are mastering this — they book their meals or their workouts like they book an appointment,” Errico said.
She explained that dietary habits can help improve productivity and work-life balance.
“All of these things drive how we fight disease, how we fight inflammation, how we keep ourselves healthy,” Errico said.
“And if we can do that, we’ll definitely show up better, less stressed, less anxious and, of course, we’ll be a much more inspiring leader.”
She acknowledged that it may seem robotic to schedule meals, “but there is nothing more important than our health and our disciplines around our body and how it works,” she said, because it affects our health.
“It affects how we emerge as leaders. It affects who wants to work with us and who doesn’t.”
People usually want to turn to alcohol and carbs when they’re stressed, but Errico suggests “healthy food choices that are as close to nature as possible” and provide important nutrients.
She highly recommends eating berries and nuts.
Berries are extremely high in antioxidants, she said. “It protects our brain from stress and keeps our mitochondria healthy.”
Nuts also make a “powerful and simple snack,” Errico said.
“They’re full of magnesium, and the more magnesium we have, the better our chances of reducing our depression or anxiety.”
And if you want a full meal, the expert suggests loading up your plate with omega-3-rich foods like salmon are “spectacular for reducing inflammation and improving our cognitive function.”
“A bonus would be if you could throw in some leafy greens,” she added. “Because then it’s high in fiber.”
To wash it all down, Errico recommends ditching sugary drinks for a hydrating glass of water.
